In Indian mythology, Mother Nature is epitomized as Goddess Durga, who protects us from the evil from all ten sides. She and God Shiva – the epitome of wisdom – are the one and same, just like fire and flame. However, the Bengalis also see her as a daughter of the family, married to Shiva, and who comes to visit her parents from her heavenly abode once a year. So, when she leaves for her own abode in Mount Kailash, the elderly mother anh other females feed the daughter and also pray for her safety during the long journey.
