One of the largest festivals of the people of Bihar, India is the Chhat festival, when the Sun is worshipped as the ultimate power. The word chat probably was derived from the Sanskrit word Shat meaning six. Hindu Proponents of Yoga depicted six stages of enlightenment through meditation, at the end of which one sees the light of the self – the Sun. The worship is mainly done by the housewives in the family. On the day of the Chhat Puja, hundreds of housewives offer homage to the Sun before sunrise. A really colourful ceremony, and a feast for the photo seekers.
