All Souls' Day established by Saint Odilo of Cluny, and observed by Catholics and some other Christian denominations throughout the world, is a day of prayer and remembrance for the souls of those who have departed, on 2nd November. The day is dedicated to prayer and remembrance for the loved ones who are dead. People also visit the graves of loved ones and decorate with flowers and candles. The emotion and the solemnity, the sombreness and austerity of the ceremony reminds us of a very similar Hindu ceremony - the Tarpan before the Durga puja, when also people offer prayers for the departed ancestors.
